The Ballet Alliance
Festival & Audition Registration
Eligibility:
Company dancers who are placed in Level 5 or Level 6 for the 26/27 School Session are eligible to audition for casting in Ballet Alliance performance pieces, including Emerging Choreographer pieces. Dancers must be available for weekly weeknight evening rehearsals in order to be cast. Typically this is Monday and Thursday evenings 7pm-8pm, but is subject to change.
Annually, two new works are set on BAYB by resident and/or visiting choreographers during our August choreography setting weeks. During these weeks, an audition is held and class is taught by the visiting choreographer. Following audition day, casting is released and the work begins to quickly set works that are on average 8-10 minutes in length. Dancers, if cast, should be committed to attending the full rehearsal schedule during these weeks. Minor conflicts can be considered at the choreographer’s discretion, and will need to be communicated at the audition for the choreographer’s consideration. Only one of the pieces will be selected to be performed at The Ballet Alliance festival in 2027, determined by TBA’s Festival Artistic Directors. However, both pieces will be performed as part of our spring production and enter our ongoing repertoire.
Ongoing Rehearsal Schedule:
Each piece will be given a designated weekly rehearsal time. For example - Piece A rehearses Mondays at 7pm, and Piece B rehearses Thursdays at 7pm. Once TBA’s Festival Artistic Directors select which piece will be performed (decision ETA early February) at the Festival, that piece will be rehearsed during both time slots.
Note: the ongoing rehearsal time slot is 1 hr from 7pm-8pm. However, the entire hour will not always be used. Rehearsals may be shorter for the dancers from time to time and will be noted on the weekly rehearsal schedule announcements.
Additional Commitment Notes:
For dancers who are cast in Ballet Alliance choreography pieces, it is important to understand that attendance in ongoing rehearsals must be as strong as possible. Occasional absences can be excused with advance notice. Spring break weeks can be challenging to navigate, as we straddle many school districts with different calendars. If we accommodated everyone’s spring break vacation absences, we would be heading into the Festival weak, with a month of not having a full cast present. Thus, the final rehearsals leading up to the Festival are mandatory.
Cast dancers will also be required to be present for the Festival Artistic Director’s on-site visit (Feb/Mar). Date will be announced by TBA in September.
Audition Fee / Festival Deposit:
The audition fee is $125, which includes a $100 deposit towards the dancer’s Ballet Alliance trip. Note: the audition/registration fee is $125 total for either or both audition dates and will be processed with card on file in JackRabbit. Please complete form to confirm which week(s) dancer is attending.
