Primary Division Ballet - Levels of Study

Parent & Me | Age 2-3

Our Parent & Me class is a half-hour class of exploring movement, imagination and music in a creative and engaging way! Parents help model and guide their little one through the class’s activities and it is a fun experience for both parent and child!Parent & Me children who pass their third birthday and show readiness to participate in a 45 minute class without a parent will be recommended to transition to our next level, Creative Movement.

Parent & Me class is a drop-in class - no advanced registration or long-term commitment required! Class is $18 per class. Class cards are available for purchase for a discounted class rate.

Parents and children should wear comfortable clothing to class. Children can wear socks, ballet shoes, or be barefoot.

Creative Movement | Ages 3-4

Our Creative Movement program introduces young children to movement through music, using the spark of the imagination and a hands-on approach to present the fundamentals of dance. Creative Movement students meet for this 45 minute class once per week.  Children should display readiness for a classroom setting without a parent present. Children typically spend 1 full year in this level before advancing to Pre Ballet.

Ballet & Tap Combo | Ages 4-6

Our Ballet & Tap Combo is a one hour class that spends 30 minutes learning the fundamentals of Classical Ballet, and 30 minutes exploring the basics of Tap. Students in this class will need both Ballet & Tap shoes for every class and will perform a Tap dance for the year-end student concert performance. Ballet & Tap Combo is for children who are age 4 by September 1 through age 6. Children typically spend 1 year in this level before advancing to Level 1A.

Pre Ballet | Ages 4-6

Pre Ballet is for children in Pre-Kindergarten through 1st grade. Teachers use a hands-on approach to creatively present the fundamentals of ballet. Basic positions and terminology are taught. Students meet for this 60 minute class once per week.  Children typically spend 1 year in this level.

Level 1A | Ages 5-7

Level 1A is based on teacher recommendation, and is typically for students ages 5-7. Class begins with conditioning exercises followed by barre work and finishing with center work. Proper technique, alignment and class etiquette are emphasized. This class meets for 60 minutes. Students may take this class one or two times per week. Students who take Level 1A two times per week may be able to bypass Level 1B the following year, depending on progress. Children typically spend 1 year in this level.

Level 1B | Teacher Recommendation, Age 7+

Level 1B is for students who have advanced from Level 1A, placed by teacher recommendation. Class begins with conditioning exercises followed by barre work and finishing with center work. Proper technique, alignment and class etiquette are emphasized. This class meets for 75 minutes. Students may take this class one or two times per week. Children typically spend 1 - 2 years in this level.
