Company Bulletin - Bay Area Youth Ballet
Welcome 2025-2026 Company dancers and families to our online bulletin for company schedules and information!
Rehearsals throughout the season are primarily held on Saturdays. Soloists, Demi Soloists and Corps de Ballet dancers should hold available a 1pm-4pm time frame. Apprentices should hold available a 3pm to 5pm time frame. Occasional Friday rehearsals are held, generally the week before theatre week. Principal casting, especially roles that need to coordinate with guest artists, often need to be rehearsed on Fridays and Sundays. In this event, this is coordinated between all parties. These dancers tend to have lighter Saturday rehearsals, if any, instead of Saturday rehearsals.
The Ballet Alliance
Festival & Audition Registration
(Deadline to register for auditions is August 1!)
Eligibility:
Company dancers who are placed in Level 5 or Level 6 are eligible to audition for casting in Ballet Alliance performance pieces. Annually, two new works are set on BAYB by resident and/or visiting choreographers. Auditions are held on a Wednesday, with casting released Thursday morning. Rehearsals continue Thursday through Sunday, where the choreographer works quickly to set up to 15 minute works on the dancers. Dancers, if cast, should be committed to attending the full rehearsal schedule. Minor conflicts can be considered at the choreographer’s discretion, and will need to be communicated at the audition for the choreographer’s consideration. Only one of the pieces will be selected to be performed at The Ballet Alliance festival in 2026, determined by TBA’s Festival Artistic Directors. However, both pieces will be performed as part of our March production and entire our ongoing repertoire.
Ongoing Rehearsal Schedule:
Each piece will be given a designated weekly rehearsal time. Initially, the Week 1 (Aug 13 audition) piece will be assigned to Mondays at 7pm. Initially, the Week 2 (Aug 20 audition) will be assigned to Thursdays at 7pm. Once TBA’s Festival Artistic Directors select which piece will be performed (decision ETA early February) at the Festival, that piece will be rehearsed during both time slots.
Note: the ongoing rehearsal time slot is 1 hr from 7pm-8pm. However, the entire hour will not always be used. Rehearsals may be shorter for the dancers from time to time and will be noted on weekly rehearsal schedule announcements.
Additional Commitment Notes:
For dancers who are cast in Ballet Alliance choreography pieces, it is important to understand that attendance in ongoing rehearsals must be as strong as possible. Occasional absences can be excused with advance notice. Spring break weeks can be challenging to navigate, as we straddle many school districts with different calendars. If we accommodated everyone’s spring break vacation absences, we would be heading into the Festival weak, with a month of not having a full cast present. Thus, the final rehearsals leading up to the Festival will be mandatory: March 24, March 26, March 31, April 2, April 4. (March 28 & 29 at Theatre - Spring Production).
Cast dancers will also be required to be present for the Festival Artistic Director’s on-site visit (Feb/Mar) Date will be announced by TBA in September.
Audition Fee / Festival Deposit:
The audition fee is $125, which includes a $100 deposit towards the dancer’s Ballet Alliance trip. Note: the audition/registration fee is $125 total for either or both audition dates. Registering for both dates will duplicate this fee by default in JackRabbit. Please do not process this fee in your Parent Portal, but allow our administrative staff to remove any duplicate fees for dancers attending both auditions.
